Types of Indian visas
India offers several e-Visa categories. Most travellers will use one of the three below.
Tourist e-Visa
Ideal for travellers visiting India for recreation, sightseeing, or meeting friends and relatives.
Validity: 30 days (non-extendable), 1 year, or 5 years.
- Multiple entry for 1 or 5-year visa.
- Max stay of 90–180 days depending on nationality.
- Non-convertible to other visa types.
Business e-Visa
Designed for individuals visiting India for technical meetings, business negotiations, or setting up ventures.
Validity: Up to 1 year from the date of grant.
- Multiple entry allowed.
- FRRO registration required if stay exceeds 180 days.
Medical e-Visa
For patients seeking medical treatment in specialised hospitals or wellness centres in India.
Validity: Up to 60 days from the date of first entry.
- Triple entry allowed.
- Can be combined with a Medical Attendant e-Visa.
Eligibility
The e-Visa is available to citizens of over 160 countries visiting India for recreation, business, or medical purposes.
Note: Diplomatic / official passport holders or Laissez-passer travel-document holders are not eligible for the e-Visa.
- Your passport must have at least 6 months validity from the date of arrival in India.
- Passport should have at least two blank pages for stamping by the Immigration Officer.
- International travellers must hold a return ticket or onward journey ticket.
